ARTIST"S STATEMENT
My name is Talya, and yes, I create!
Primarily, I am a visual artist. My mother is an artist and so was my grandmother. Art played a major role in my childhood. I started figurative drawing at five years old as my mother founded a drawing group at the house in the 1980's (which still gathers together each Monday night). I graduated from A.W. Dreyfoos High School of the Arts in 1998. I have experienced many roles in the art world including student, figurative artist, painter, writer, performance artist, gallery director, curator, and arts administrator.
Throughout the years, I tended to create large-scale works which usually didn't incorporate found objects, papers, and materials. However, in recent years I find myself drawn more and more towards straight collage. I love paper, both handmade as well as found, and am immensely enamored with the look and feel of antique books and magazines. Nostalgic images appeal to me a great deal and In my collage series, they're most often seen along side pages pulled from sources like etiquette guides, cookbooks, and debutant ball invitations.
Feel free to with any questions, comments, and inquiries. Some of my collage work is currently on view at Meyerhoefer Gallery in Lake Worth, FL.
